A journalists role in society is to be a watch dog for society, keeping the public informed about the world. It is the duty of a journalist to remain impartial when presenting an article, allowing the readers to form their own opinions. A journalist works to uphold democratic order by ensuring that the public is adequately informed on events that will govern the way our society operates, such as elections, as political candidates will often attempt to besmirch their opposition via propaganda and often untruthful reports, whereas a journalist aught to remain impartial and present the facts as they are. Were a journalist to not follow a moral code of ethics for reporting, then they would produce biased or untruthful accounts, which may mislead the public's opinions on what has been reported on, going against the very purpose of a journalist. What is Journalism/ What is a journalist? The duty of a journalist is to investigate areas which would otherwise not be reported to the general public , allowing the masses to have a more informed world view, to help them better interact with the society we are a part of. I believe that a journalist should always try to remain impartial when they are producing a story, releasing their articles as an unbiased account, leaving it up to the consumer to interpret the information. Due to the ease in which any individual can post first hand accounts to online media, I believe that journalism as a profession may undergo some changes. As it is the primary role of a journalist to report news to the public, as clearly and truthfully as is possible, I see no differentiation between the role a professional journalist plays in reporting news, and those with a first hand account of certain events, as both the eye witness account and the journalist’s primary goal is to inform the pub...
